In this course we will discuss the continuing increase in the number of people over the age of 65 and the distinct needs of the elderly population. We will cover the changes that occur in our bodies as we age and discuss how nutrition plays a role in healthy aging. We will also address the common nutritional disorders and deficiencies that affect older people and provide methods for treating and supporting people who face these problems. By the end of this course, you will be able to:
-Summarize the changes to the body as a person ages
-Understand the nutritional requirements of the elderly
-Identify the most common types of nutritional disorders and deficiencies and the signs and symptoms of each
-Determine measures to prevent nutrition deficits in the elderly
