Course Description

This course will review the various forms of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation that unfortunately occurs all too often in support communities around the country. As we progress as a society, the focus on reducing these types of incidents stems from the ability to systematically prevent and accurately prevent these instances. As a direct care provider, failure to properly report a serious incident can also have legal implications not only on your employer, but also you personally. This course seeks to prepare learners to distinguish the various types of reportable incidents, how to document incidents, and when to suspect you might be supporting an individual who may be at risk of being exploited, abused, or neglected.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

-Define the terms, abuse, neglect, and exploitation

-Identify the different types of abuse, neglect, and exploitation

-Identify at risk groups for abuse, neglect, and exploitation

-Explain the concept of self-neglect

-Identify proper incident reporting procedures

-Understand mandatory reporting requirements
