Course Description
In this course you will learn about the General Characteristics and Needs of Individuals Served. We will discuss developmental disabilities in general and then delve deeper into four common developmental disabilities: intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism spectrum disorder. By the end of this course, you will be able to:
-State why it is important to understand developmental disabilities
-Define "developmental disability"
-Describe the major characteristics of intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and autism
-Distinguish between intellectual disabilities and mental illness
-State issues related to specific developmental disabilities
-State the supports needed for specific developmental disabilities
-Identify the principles of supporting individuals with developmental disabilities
-Identify Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
-Describe what Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs means for individuals with developmental disabilities
